What are cookies?
Cookie is another word for biscuit, but in the world of web browsing, a “cookie” is something totally different. When you access my website, a small amount of text called a “cookie” gets stored on your device’s browser. This text contains various bits of information about your browsing habits, preferences, personalisation of content, etc…
There are other tools that work in a similar way and are also used to collect data about your browsing activity. As a group, these are known as cookies.
The specific way these tools are used is laid out below.
What are cookies used for on this website?
Cookies play an essential part in the functioning of this website. The main aim of the cookies on this site is to improve your browsing experience. For example, to remember your preferences (language, region, etc.) during browsing and for future visits. The information collected through cookies also allows the website to be improved and adapted to your interests as a user, searches to be quicker, etc.
In certain cases, if you have given your prior informed consent, cookies may be used for other purposes, for example, to obtain information allowing you to be shown advertising based on analysis of your browsing habits.
What are cookies NOT used for on this website?
No sensitive information that identifies you personally, such as your name, address, password, etc., is stored in the cookies used.
Who uses the information stored in the cookies?
The information stored in the cookies on my website is used exclusively by me, except in the case of those identified below as “third-party cookies”, which are used and managed by external bodies that provide services that improve the user experience. For example, statistics gathered on the number of visitors, the most popular content, etc.
How can I avoid the use of cookies on this website?
If you prefer to avoid the use of cookies, you can REJECT them. Or, you can SELECT the ones you want to avoid, and the ones you want to permit (in this document, you will find more detailed information about each kind of cookie, their purpose, recipient, duration, etc).
If you have accepted them, you will not be asked again, unless you store the cookies on your device, as described below. If you want to revoke your consent, you will have to delete the cookies and select them again.
How do I disable and delete the use of cookies?
The Owner displays information about their Cookie Policy in the cookie banner, accessible on all pages of the website. The cookie banner displays essential information about data processing and allows the User to do the following:
- ACCEPT or REJECT the installation of cookies, or withdraw consent previously granted.
- Change the cookie preference on the Personalise Cookies page, which you can access through the Cookies Policy, or by clicking here: Personalise Cookies.
To limit, block or delete the cookies on this website (and third-party ones), you can change your browser settings at any time. Take into account that these settings are different on each browser.
The following links provide instructions on how to enable or disable cookies in the most common browsers:
What kind of cookies are used on this website?
Each website uses its own cookies. I use the following on my website:
BY MANAGER
First-party cookies:
These are cookies sent to the User’s device from a computer or domain managed by the publisher, from which the service requested by the User is provided.
Third-party cookies:
These are cookies sent to the User’s device from a computer or domain not managed by the publisher, but by another entity, which processes the data obtained through the cookies.
If the cookies are served by a computer or domain managed by the publisher, but the information collected through them is managed by a third party using them for their own purposes (for example, to improve services it provides, or to provide advertising services for other entities), they cannot be considered “first-party cookies”.
BY PURPOSE
Technical cookies:
Cookies necessary for browsing and the proper functioning of my website, such as: Monitoring traffic and data communication, identifying a session, logging into restricted access areas, applying to register for or take part in an event, counting visits for the purposes of billing software licenses the website service uses, using security features during browsing, storing content for sharing videos or audio, enabling dynamic content (for example, animation of loading text or images) or sharing content through social media.
Analytical cookies:
These allow the number of users to be quantified, for the measurement and statistical analysis of their use of the website.
Preference or personalisation cookies:
Cookies that allow for information to be remembered, so the User can access the service in a way that might be different to other users. For example, the language, the number of results to show when the User does a search, or the service’s appearance or content, depending on the type of browser the User accesses the service through, or the region they access the service from, etc.
BY THE LENGTH OF TIME THEY REMAIN ACTIVE FOR
Session cookies:
Cookies designed to collect and store data while the User accesses a web page.
These are usually used to store information only useful for providing a service requested by the User on one occasion (for example, a list of the products acquired). They disappear when the session ends.
Persistent cookies:
Cookies in which the data remains stored in the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the responsible party, ranging from a few minutes to several years. It is important to specifically consider whether persistent cookies are necessary, given that session cookies can reduce privacy risks. When persistent cookies are installed, it is advisable to reduce their duration to a minimum, depending on their purpose. To this end, WG29 Opinion 4/2012 indicated that for a cookie to be exempt from the duty of informed consent, its lifespan must be related to its purpose. Therefore, it is much more probable for session cookies to be accepted than persistent cookies.
